What is organizational behavior?

Organizational behavior is best defined as the study of how individuals and groups act within organizations. This area of study focuses on understanding the interactions and dynamics that occur in a workplace environment, how people behave both as individuals and as part of a team, and the impact these behaviors have on the overall functioning and performance of the organization.

By examining factors such as communication, leadership styles, group dynamics, and organizational culture, organizational behavior seeks to improve organizational effectiveness and employee satisfaction. In doing so, it provides insights that can lead to better management practices and a more productive workplace.

The alternatives do not accurately represent organizational behavior. Analyzing market trends and consumer behavior pertains more to marketing and business strategy rather than the interpersonal and group dynamics within organizations. Designing organizational buildings and facilities is related to physical workplace design, which does not encompass the human-oriented aspects of organizational behavior. Similarly, while designing employee training programs is important for skills development, it does not cover the broader relationships and behaviors that define organizational behavior.
